Afrigator - ” a promising and much needed addition to African web real estate.”
Above is Chatterbox’s screenshot of the cyber discussions on Afrigator [viewed at about 11 AM US Central time / 17:00 GMT)- what the creators see as “Africa’s primary Social Media Aggregator”.
Mike Stopforth, one of the brains behind the concept, states while unveiling the beta version of the application in South Africa: “We pull content in and splice and dice it into easily consumable chunks for readers, viewers and listeners, and reward the publishers who submit their feeds to our site by directing traffic straight back to them.interesting application to watch.”
From the data at White African, there appears to be about 1655 blogs registered on Afrigator. Note the word “registered”, because, I bet there are much more blogs out there, and what Afrigator has may very well be the “tip of the iceberg”…how big is this tip? Maybe Mike & co will make this revelation when they release their next update.

True talk Caretaker. Africa needs this. What I have observed among the major African Internet media destinations is their apparent disconnection with current web 2.0 trends. How many Nigerian newspaper website has RSS feeds? Even the recent overhaul done to Vanguard, which I must say brings the site up to international standards, overlooked the need for this. Odili.net the prime site for most Nigerian news readers is full of annoying popups and silly cheap adverts…

Hey caretaker! You are dead right. I’m sure it is only the tip of the iceberg! I think this would make for interesting stats and what we will do from our side is to add these stats to our existing trends page so people could actually keep a watchful eye on it if you’d like.
Thank you (and Yinka) so much for the kind words, btw! We really do appreciate it!
