Are African Anglican Leaders Staking Claims in the United States?

By Barbara Bradley Hagerty, NPR

The U.S. Episcopal Church has been estranged from parts of the global Anglican church since a church in New Hampshire consecrated a gay bishop. The controversy has abated somewhat, but many in the church now worry about another potential divide. Depending on your point of view, African bishops are either stealing American worshippers — or rescuing them.

Just as Western missionaries spread the Christian message to Africa, African and other Anglican leaders are staking claims in the United States.

In the past two years, there’s been a flurry of reverse colonization as archbishops from Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Bolivia and Singapore have taken conservative Episcopal churches under their wings.

Dont want to sound like a wet rag but it would be useful to validate the credentials of some of these “archbishops”. For many titles I understand are self bestowed. And pardon me if am wrong.

It is unlikely that the title “Arch-Bishop” is self bestowed. These priests are ministering to sophisticated and sharp brethren in the US. These are some foo-foo headed priests.

Dear Dee Tee, why I said this is because I heard that some African imposters with fake titles are parading themeselves as Bishops in the US. Their credentials are worth verifying for such evil minded so called “men of God” do lead the brethren astray. Even in the Episcopal world you cannot be too careful. Back to the context of the post, well done to our African Bishops who are indeed doing well and propagating the faith righteously and staking clainms (for Jesus and not for themselves I hope) all over the world and in the US in particular.
