Big Brother Africa: Maureen Fails to Convince Ugandans.
Maureen’s eviction from the Big Brother house came to Ugandans as not much of a surprise. In fact she out lived her time while in the house.
Public opinion on the tall slim fashion designer, claimed by many to be the worst kisser Uganda has had on screen, favoured her exit just after the first house evictee, Justus.
“I have always counted her out of the house from the time Justus left. That was just a ghost in there.” Joseph Waninda, a close follower of the show said.
Big Brother Africa II is more than idolatry in Uganda from the day former big brother representative in the BBA I Gaetano Kagwa Jjuko had a series of behind the sheets affairs with the South African representative; Abbey now married and a TV icon in Tanzania.
Attending both eviction and nomination nights comes at a cost of close to a dollar depending on which hideout one chooses.
The Big Brother show however is not all cakes in Uganda. In a country much respected world wide with its openness on the fight against HIV/AIDS, Maureen’s acts on Africa’s 24hour live show got mixed feelings.
Youth, adults, and government officials have all been on the toe of the Big Brother show. Every bracket in Uganda has embraced the show with varying degrees.
The youth have followed every bit, every drama, every act of the show, saving a country where the English Premier League had taken over almost every lip. Arguments before the Big Brother show were all about soccer. That has changed. Its now Ofuneka, Richard and Tatiana.
While a faction of adults disregard the show, many smile and actively participate behind doors.
It’s the government however where the Big Brother show does not attract numbers. From the day Gaetano, now a co-host of Studio 53 adventure show on MNET had sex in the Big Brother I, the show is not popular within the government wigs.
Uganda’s State Minister for Ethics and Integrity Nsaba Buturo had no kind words for Maureen addressing the press on a day Maureen was jetting into the country from the South Africa where the Big Brother II show is based.
“Am happy the person called Maureen has lost. Am over the moon that this person has lost,” the minister said.
The return of the Gaetano in the Big Brother I witnessed one of the biggest crowds to have received any kind of human into this country. Not even the Bill Clinton, George Bush Jr. or the Queen of England’s visit in the 50’s could draw a clear margin with those that went to the Airport to receive Gaetano Kagwa. Over ten thousand Ugandans welcomed him.
That shocked even president Yoweri Museveni throwing him into asking; “who is this Gaetano boy?”
In less than 24 hours of his return, Gaetano’s follow up was beyond ecstatic that, he and his controversial South African housemate Abbey were invited by the president to have a chat. By the way he was flown in a presidential chopper.
This time though, the environment was rather rigid. With the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting just a few weeks away and the deployment of police officers in almost every corner of Kampala, the capital, Maureen’s return was slated to be a dull one.
The Ethics and Integrity minister, an out spoken government figure against the Big Brother show had no kind words for those trekking the 45km route to welcome Maureen at Entebbe International Airport.
“Those who are going to Entebbe to welcome Maureen need help,” the minister said. “It’s regrettable to see people leave their work and welcome a person who has been disturbing our morality.”
The Minister was also stunned by the appointment recently of Gaetano Kaggwa as a Special Representative for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS.
“Mr. Gaetano is best known for his immoral antics on television. I do not believe that in matters of morality, he is a good role model for our young people.”
“With due respect to Mr.Kaggwa and those who appointed him, there is a countless number of Ugandans with more impeccable record. They are knowlegdale, forthright and morally upright HIV/AIDS campaigners,” he stressed with frustration.
Morality aside, Maureen had not been as exciting as Ugandans had wanted. Gaetano Kaggwa was all talkative, nagging, sexy, romantic, full of drama and always kept the Big Brother I at its feet. The Maureen character this time however was the opposite of people’s expectations.
While Maureen was a great input in the house, Ugandans unfortunately only came to know her by her short comings. A snake (betrayer), poor speaker, very poor kisser, marriage breaker, names it.
Maureen Namatovu being history now, who’s taking the money? Mixed thoughts. Because of proximity Uganda to Tanzania, Richard is a favourite for the US$ 100.000 and closely behind him is Ofuneka.

lol!! Maureen – the worst kisser that Uganda has….funny Eddie…:D
I voted Maureen out because I did not like her personality. She was too clingy and she always needed attention. She did not act her age….
But for lasting that long in the house – Ugandans should welcome her.

I am definitely voting Richard out even before Saturday, Richard showed all signs of not respecting women. People have been calling that entertainment and so funny but I don’t think so. I think that man needs to visit a psychologist. He hates women.

We are not voting people out now … we are voting for the WINNER
If you’ve been voting for Richard then – you’ve been voting for him to get the $100000.
Hope you’ve been voting for the winner … I dont like the guy either … he thinks he’s the best thing to ever hit Bigbrother

Y’all seem to love this show. I have only watched one episode this season and that was when Justus was acting up and demanding an apology from the lady who cursed at him/something like that. I am glad he got voted off. This is silly but isn’t the Nigja babe the one that is obsessed with her boob job? You can tell am not too into it right?:-)

There were certain presentations that Maureen did relatively well in. So do you know what her next plans are? Is she going to continue with her fashion designing or move to other endeavors?
