DAARSAT: Nigeria’s First Satellite Pay TV Platform goes Live

DAARSAT, the first satellite Pay TV platform offering service in Nigeria and operating wholly from Nigeria, went live today. Daarsat, a subsidiary of Daar Communication that owns the AIT/RayPower brands, is headed by Dr Raymond Dokpesi. According to his statement:

“DAARSAT will commence operations with 40 channels that span entertainment, sports, movies, lifestyle, news, fashion and music. A major feature of the new pay TVs is the deliberate choice of the channels to align with the expectation of the Nigerian viewing public.

“DAARSAT will introduce the latest compression technology MPEG4 which gives it the capability to introduce real High Definition programming to Nigeria as it will air Nigeria’s first High definition broadcast content as part of its programme offering.

“In a bid to accelerate the transfer of technology, DAARSAT will, in its first year of operation, commence the manufacture of its decoders in Nigeria.

“In DAAR Communications Plc’s traditional pioneering role, DAARSAT is set to introduce to Nigeria, the world’s first Integrated Decoder and LCD Television which receives both digital terrestrial and satellite television signals”.

Daar Communications is the first private broadcasting company listed on the Nigerian stock exchange. It went public in 2008.

Congratulation to DAAR Communications Plc for your wonderful effort and progress of information in this country. Most especially Raymond Dokpesi, making this country to compete with the rest of the word. My question is’ can we football loving ones be able to watch English premier, Spanish and Italians league live on sports station? Hmmmmm if so we shall be more proud of you and invest in your organization. I will be happy if you reply this message to me through my email. Once again accept my congratulation.

This is a giant stride for DAAR communications. They have proved to Nigerias and indeed Africans that they are truely the best. We are looking foward to having a trill of your programmes. But i would advice that the price ranges of the products should be affordable to numerous Nigerians and Africans at large and that your customers interest should be paramount.

    Bravo!

I have not renewed my DSTV for 2 good months now because I was hoping that your decoder and your service would've been up and running waaay before now. In a way, I'm kindda loosing all the excitement. Please when for sure are we expecting Daar Sat to release the decoders for customers. Even if is one channel, I'll still be happy. Also please, consider adding CNN in your news lineup. FOXNEWS is just not the way to go, it's more like a propoganda news channel/machine for the U.S GOP. Kudos to DAAR Communications PLC for all the efforts. Truely Nigerian.

Im very happy to see some thing like this happening in nigeria, but a sat without a spectacular sports channel and live important football coverage is like noting on the space. most of the nigerians like live soccer locally and Internationally, I advice daarsat to take care of same pre- season friendlies from european clubs,like:- real madrid, man utd, arsenal, chelsea, barcelona, liverpool, inter milan and ac milan as well as bayern munchen. thanks from danzaria gombe state.
