E-library Boost in Egypt

In Egypt, efforts to widen access to scientific material have been boosted by the launch of a 60,000 US dollar digital library. The library launched this month boasts locally-produced research, and provides the Egyptian community with discounted journals by leading US scientific societies. The initiative, funded by U.S based Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology, will also provide training for librarians and experts in the country. Magdi Tawfik Abdelhamid, a researcher at Cairo’s National Research Centre said in an ever-increasing digital age, virtual libraries are the best choice for increasing the use of academic research while lowering costs. – Panos, London.
