Human Waste-Powered Street Lights

streetlight.jpg“A bio-gas plant in an Indian town generates 3,000 watts of electricity a day—from human waste”.

How?

Methane gas generated from wastes from 240 Indian homes are collected and used to power a generator. Any odor? None!

Thanks Caretaker for this information. For over a year now i have taken interest in this technology. I even invited friends to view a presentation on this by a guy from a company called “Russian Federation”. Unfortunately no takers yet, which is sad for this technology has been tried and tested and proven. Hope Nigeria clocks on to this soon.

Just watched the video. Nigeria could really use this technology to advantage. Wondering which state will bell the cat for many others will quickly follow suit. Is there anyone out there close enough to Governor Fashola to sell this idea to him for Lagos Mega City has more waste than can be imagined to produce Methane and power electricity. Dr Kila could help out with a postcard request also.

this is very interesting. the excess wastes in Lagos is enough to sustain that citys need for energy. i hear also that waste water is being recycled for urban use in malaysia, and that it is much cleaner than mineral bottled water. this is the thing we need most in lagos, cheap renewable energy…

The implementation of this concept and others can only be made possible by lobbying the members of Lagos House of Assembly.

So then let us via African Loft lobby the Lagos House of Assembly as a starting point. Then let us gather information on the different waste technology (for energy, water etc and present this to LHoA. Is there a public website for Lagosians that we can log onto to discuss, lobby, sell these ideas. I am sure that a lot of people and experts are aware of this technologies but it needs to be pushed to the foreminds of the Governor and Assembly members in Lagos State.
