Michelle Obama: Dressing for the White House

That there is nothing traditional about 44th President-Elect and his family will be reiterating the obvious. They are not only advocating political change, but Michelle Obama is also changing fashion when it comes to first ladies. Michelle, unlike any First Lady who has ever occupied the White House, graciously portrays the look of the modern president’s wife.

Check out a photoslide of Michelle’s stylish attire:

Ever since Michelle Obama was criticized as being “too strong” she has made the dress rather than the suit her uniform – a method of bringing out her softer feminine attributes and shelving the executive look. Her decision to choose inexpensive off-the-rack dresses over suits definitely distinguishes her from other female counterparts who spend thousands on designer suits. Her dresses do a great job of accentuating her beautiful figure-8 shaped body almost making her look sexy in a non-provocative way.

Her style has definitely had a positive effect on many women. For example, on the tv show, “The View”, Michelle debuted a stunning flowery black and white sleeveless sundress by Donna Ricco from White House Black Market. Moments after the show the dress was sold out.

The election night Narciso Rodriguez dress, on the other hand, was not so popular, in fact, it spurred numerous criticisms by fashion bloggers. It was a bold red dress with a black frame and waist band showing off her pear-shape. Personally I was really feeling the dress - it was her power statement, a statement that she was a force to be reckoned with. What did you think of the dress?

Another outstanding dress was the one she wore on her first visit to the Oval Office with her husband. It was a simple red dress with a pleated neckline by her favorite designer Chicago designer Maria Pinto. It looked simply exquisite. The dress highlighted her modern style and boldness. It was certainly a winner.

People have compared Michelle Obama’s style to Jackie Kennedy’s, do you agree? No matter what, she is definitely out to change the face of political fashion.
