Michelle Obama Steps up to Americanize Hubby

Michelle Obama succeeded in Americanizing her husband, Barack Obama, on Day 1 of the Democratic Party convention in Denver. Michelle painted an intimate portrait of her husband, Barack, as a father and family man with faith in the American dream.

In a most eloquently delivered speech aimed at reassuring voters, she buries any doubts about her husband as she also addressed the critics challenging her patriotism over her “I-felt-proud-of-America-for-the-first-time” statement made earlier this. Some excerpts from Michelle’s speech:

“I stand here today at the cross-currents of that history knowing that my piece of the American Dream is a blessing hard won by those who came before me,” she told a cheering crowd packed into the 18,000-seat Denver center.

“All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won’t do, that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be.

“That is the thread that connects our hearts. That is the thread that runs through my journey and Barack’s journey and so many other improbable journeys that have brought us here tonight, where the current of history meets this new tide of hope. That is why I love this country.”

Some Americans have become uneasy of Obama’s background and ’sudden’ rise to fame, hence the need for Michelle to “Americanize” her hubby to the people.

At the end of the speech, it should become clearer that indeed Michelle and Barack Obama are nothing but ordinary Americans, from humble beginnings, who worked hard to attain success in their respective lives despite huge challenges.

As the two Obama girls, Malia and Sasha, joined their mother on the podium after the speech to chat with their father via satellite from Kansas City, the haze over who Barack Obama should clear, I think. The Obamas represent the core essence of the American Dream. What else?

Hilary Clinton’s speech endorsing Obama as her presidential candidate and calling on all her supporters to vote Obama/vote Demorcrat was equally eloquent and heartwarming.
