MUYIWA - Top Selling UK Gospel Church Artist Returns

It is said that true music comes from the realities of an artist’s experience and Muyiwa’s life is one that has borne its fair share of highs and lows.
A singer/songwriter, Muyiwa finds himself at another major milestone in 2008 with the exciting release of his third album “Declaring His Love” – a testimony to this Church singer’s faith. His effortless mix of Gospel music with influences as far as Rock, Pop, Nigerian rhythms, Soul and even Native American Indian beats have fed the enthusiasm to make him one of the UK’s most sought after music acts.
His first two albums have been responsible for making Muyiwa and his singing ensemble Riversongz a household name not only in the UK where Muyiwa resides, but all over Europe and his motherland continent of Africa. Songs like “Imela” , “God of Miracle” (see video below), “Restoration”, “Alleluia Eh” and his signature song “Our God Is Good” have all been embraced and sung by Churches everywhere.
With the release of his latest project “Declaring His Love”, the lead single “Hey Ya” again marks a unique fusion of an American Indian Chant with Contemporary Gospel music. This opening track is one of Muyiwa’s favourites.
“Hey Ya” is the first single to be released from the album, “it’s a fusion of the 1st Nation of America’s Music (American Indian) with African beats and laced with the classic Muyiwa and Riversongz vocals,” says Muyiwa. An encounter in the US with the 1st Nation of America left him inspired by their history and strength as a people reminding him of his own African experience, singing with his people in his language and the familiar feeling of love and acceptance.
Those two very notions of ‘love’ and ‘acceptance’ were some of the struggles that Muyiwa had to experience in his earlier years. Born in England but soon found himself in Nigeria where he spent the first 9 year of his life, his parents then promptly sent him back to the UK to continue his education.
Along with his sisters, he found himself shunted from pillar to post after being in the care of an unreliable parental guardian. Muyiwa remembers the time in his early teens being kicked out by yet another uncle who had become tired of the burden of ‘this extra child’. He recalls, “I was on Borough High Street in London with all my belongings in one plastic bag, when the bag split and all of my stuff went on the floor. I just stood there and wept’. These are the painful experiences that form part of Muyiwa’s musical expression today.
Despite these early negative setbacks, he found inspiration in the Church. At the age of 13, Muyiwa decided to get more involved with music which, as it turns out, was the best decision he ever made. As a result he sang in a number of groups and taught himself how to play the piano.
Moving into adulthood and his love for great songs continued as he drew from musical influences like his fellow Nigerian compatriot Fela Kuti to the incomparable US Gospel Family Dynasty, The Winans. This diverse personal taste began to translate its self across to both his writing and music delivery.

Teaming up with EMMA Award winning producer Eddie Martin (whose writing/production credits include Whitney Houston, Sarah Connor, Ne-Yo, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown and West Life), this winning combination was to be the result of two so-far-released hit albums selling in excess of 80,000 combined units to date.
The new 2008 live music release “Declaring His Love” sees them reunite which promises to raise the stakes musically and visually as an exclusive separate DVD will also be made available in support of extensive national/international touring.
Behind the scenes, Muyiwa honed his music education at London’s Westminster University graduating with a Music Degree and went on to do a number of jobs which included voice over work, session singing and international promotions for Sony Music.
He is also a presenter on Premier Radio, where he hosts their flagship show Gospel Tonight and Worship Tonight programmes. Muyiwa has interviewed Religious & Government leaders and notable personalities such as Kirk Franklin, Bishop TD Jakes and the Archbishop of Canterbury. Currently Muyiwa also presents Sounds Of Africa on Lufthansa Airlines which carried 56 million passengers last year.
Since the release of his two albums “Restoration” and “Declaring His Power”, Muyiwa’s voice in the Gospel world has become instantly recognisable and one that he hopes will unite people of all races, cultures and denominations.
