It looks like the military are in control of the situation. But I feel for the Niger-Delta people. It is very sad - they are extremely rich but yet live in destitution.

“the politicians need to find the answers and quickly” - Wow, Nigeria has some real thinking to do and a lot of “cleansing action”, but not only with the activist/”cultists”, but also with law makers.

This video could be a microcosm of any state, area, town of Nigeria. One thing grieves me though, the people of the Niger Delta are suffering the most while the wealth from their lands, oh yes Nigeria’s wealth, is being squandered and thrown around by selected people. A slap on the face, insult upon injury.

At least Nigeria could actually compensate the Niger Delta by buiding the Mega City there and upgrading the state of the place and aleviating the suffering of the populace.

Hopefully, hope will come. POLITICIANS, do something right for a change please. Where is Yaradua in all these?

I don’t think what the Niger-Delta need a “Mega City”. Just looking at the videos, their NEEDS are apparent – first, stop or significantly reduce pollution – either through spillage or gas flaring. Then provide decent accommodation, free healthcare and education for all the indigenes.

What I found strange is the mention of the “Shell” as if it’s the government. It is the government that can really hold Shell and other oil companies accountable, and the feds should do that. I would love to see the day when there will be a government-initiated class action (law suit) against the oil companies for the environmental mess they have caused, just as feds are doing with the tobacco industry. This must happen!
