Nigeria, Abuja: Visafone, the new entrant in the Nigerian mobile phone industry has big plans: The company will offer “hybdrid” cell phones to its subscribers.
The phone operates on GSM and CMDA networks, simultaneously, “the dual SIM phone is a compact, state-of-the-art, multi-functional and technologically advanced mobile device with 2.0 mega pixel camera, video. It also has a voice recorder, with Bluetooth connectivity, a video and music player with MP3 capabilities”
Visafone was incorporated in Nigeria on June 20, 2007 following the acquisition of Cellcom. The company received its license as a telecom operator from the Nigerian Communications Commission on August 1, 2007 as one of three providers on the 800MZ frequency.
To facilitate a pan-Nigeria rollout of its services, Visafone has acquired additional companies: Independent Telephone Network (ITN) which is operational in the Lagos area, and Bourdex with operations in South-eastern Nigeria.
Visafone will offer voice, high speed data (3G) and Internet services.
Visafone is founded by Jim Ovia, the co-founder and pioneer Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc. Viasfone successfully secured some $200 million from a consortium of Nigerian banks as startup fund.

I fail to see why a phone needs to have both GSM capacity and CDMA. Can you please tell me what purpose having both serve? There is nothing mentioned here that is different to what ordinary GSM phones already do, so why the extra service. Please educate me.

It is great to know that a new telecommunications company has emerged in Nigeria and through someone i have a great respect for, Dr. Jim Ovia. My problem is, what promise does Visafone hold for Nigerian youths who have been seriously searching for jobs for as long as they care to remember in the telecomms industry without success, simply because they graduated from the Polytechnics and not Universities even though they studied Electronics/Telecommunications?
Sincerely, it hurts to see the way employers of labour are treating HND holders in Nigeria and i pray that Visafone would not tag along with this culture of discrimination. I ask because i am one of such persons. Also, would you kindly provide me with the official website of Visafone? Thank you.

Are the owners of this website also in the business of providing jobs and all that? I have been seen many comments from readers asking for numbers and information on job application. I even read one asking for visa info!
Are those prospecting for jobs so much in a haste - or really confused - when reading to understand that this is a not the place to make such request? It battles me!
